Senate Bill 50 [i] would eliminate the permit requirement for carrying a concealed weapon in North Carolina. This would be a dangerous and deadly move in our state: in other states that have weakened or eliminated their concealed carry permit requirements, firearm homicides increased up to 10.8%, [ii] and states saw a 29% increase in firearm violent crime. [iii]
Why is Permitless Carry so deadly? Younger and untrained people who haven't passed a background check would now be legally carrying hidden, loaded handguns. In public. At a restaurant or bar, on the street, or sitting next to you at a concert or a place of worship.
Untrained, younger, and armed - without a background check. This is NOT what responsible gun ownership looks like. This would lead to more gun violence in North Carolina.
