The FBI is our nation’s premier domestic intelligence and investigative agency. It’s at the very center of the government’s responsibility to protect and defend the civil rights and liberties of all Americans — a role the agency has egregiously abused in the past.

Patel’s partisan loyalty and financial ties to President Trump, his lack of professional qualifications to lead the agency, his past statements threatening to “come after” perceived opponents, and his associations with race-based and antisemitic extremists are squarely disqualifying.

Patel has gone as far as declaring himself part of “Donald Trump’s army.” He also appeared on podcasts with white supremacists, promoted the lie of widespread 2020 election fraud, and tried to downplay the deadly January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol — even baselessly claiming that the FBI, the agency he is nominated to lead, helped instigate that attack. His words and actions prove him not only unfit and unqualified to serve as director of the FBI, but a uniquely dangerous choice for our nation.
