Every new year is a time to start fresh. In a new article for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s [Real Stories blog]([link removed]), Dr. Corbin J. Standley, AFSP’s senior director of impact communication and continuous improvement, reflected on the insight gained from the [2024 Public Perception of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Poll]([link removed]), conducted in partnership with the Harris Poll, The National Action Alliance, and the Suicide Prevention Resource Center. The poll revealed that 91% of people believe that suicide can be prevented at least some of the time; and that many people are motivated to play a role in saving lives. It also showed that nine out of ten people believe that employers and the media and entertainment industry also have a role to play in supporting mental health and suicide prevention.

In his article, [“Working Together to Prioritize Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in the New Year,”]([link removed]) Dr. Standley considers specific actions employers, the media – and all of us, as individuals – can take to collectively make a difference.

There are many ways we can all get involved in the coming year: from connecting with your [local AFSP chapter]([link removed]); to becoming a [Volunteer Advocate]([link removed]) and pushing for smart public policy related to mental health and suicide prevention; to participating in an [Out of the Darkness Walk]([link removed]); to bringing an AFSP [program]([link removed]) to your community. Learn more about volunteering with AFSP and the many ways you can get involved, [here]([link removed]).
