At the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, we believe that accelerating the free flow of knowledge is key to unlocking breakthroughs in science and medicine. That’s why we’re excited to announce openRxiv ([link removed] ) , a new independent nonprofit created in partnership with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory to support bioRxiv ([link removed] ) and medRxiv ([link removed] ) , the world’s leading preprint servers for life and health sciences. Preprints, or scientific papers shared prior to peer review, accelerate the pace of scientific discovery across the globe by enabling scientists to vet results and improve research quickly, easily, and in the open.

“Preprints address a real need to share knowledge openly. We want to see them become a part of the way we do science.”

- Scott Fraser, chairman of the board of openRxiv and vice president of science grant programs at CZI

The creation of openRxiv ([link removed] ) ensures the preprint servers remain free, researcher-led, and independent while enabling greater financial stability, operational growth, and international reach. By strengthening the infrastructure for open science, we are reinforcing our commitment to fostering collaboration, transparency and rapid scientific progress.
