Healthcare was built on the backs of women. Black women and girls, to be precise, friend.

Think of Henrietta Lacks, a Black woman and cancer patient whose immortalized human cells (preserved without her consent and without any compensation to her surviving family) made it possible to conduct medical research at all on cells.

Despite our vast and uncredited contributions to the medical field, disparities in healthcare have always hit Black women the hardest. And that’s exactly what I’m fighting to change in Congress.

When I learned that Black women have a greater lifetime incidence of uterine fibroids, I introduced the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Uterine Fibroid and Education Act, which would provide funding for more (and intersectional) research on treatment, prevention, and finding a cure.

Knowing that Black women experience harsher menopausal symptoms earlier, more intensely, and longer than any other demographic of women, I introduced the Menopause Research and Equity Act of 2023.

Friend, these are conditions that impact all women, but by investing in and prioritizing more robust, intersectional research, we can both advance our understanding of these conditions AND improve women’s health outcomes across ALL demographics. Better healthcare for Black women means better healthcare for every woman.

In honor of Women’s History Month starting today, I’m humbly asking if you’ll help me improve equity in women’s health amidst the ongoing attacks and support better health outcomes for women across the board by making a contribution today. Together, we can hold the line for women’s health against the anti-woman GOP extremists in Congress. [[link removed]]

The Trump administration thinks equity in healthcare is radical. They’re defunding key global research, they’re censoring scientists and medical professionals, and they’ve made it clear that any measure advancing equality, even in potentially life-saving research , is on the chopping block.

But friend, I’ve been fighting for healthcare equity my entire career. And I won’t let Trump’s authoritarian regime stop me from doing whatever I can to help millions of Americans get better healthcare.

Thank you, and take care,

Yvette D. Clarke
