One of the most tragic things about the opioid epidemic is that it is both preventable and treatable with the right programs and resources. While the federal government has contributed significant resources to this crisis, we have far more work to do.

We are beginning to turn the tide of this epidemic by working together and pulling every lever at our disposal. That starts with investing in ongoing research to deepen our understanding of opioid addiction, which is what my bipartisan bill will do. This legislation builds on the bills I have already co-sponsored to combat the importation of fentanyl, improve reporting of opioid shipments domestically, and strengthen the federal response.
