Begin Forwarded Message:John,

President Trump recently signed an executive order stating that only the president and the attorney general have the authority to interpret the law for the executive branch—including agencies that have long been considered independent.

Historically, independent agencies exist beyond direct presidential control for a reason: to prevent any administration from wielding unchecked authority. John, will you sign our petition to demand a halt to President Trump’s overreach? [[link removed]]

SIGN ON>>> [[link removed]] Our Constitution specifically divides powers among the branches of government, and makes them separate but equal. Article II may grant the president the power to ensure that laws are “faithfully executed,” but it does not give the president authority to interpret those laws.

That role belongs to the judicial branch under Article III, which is meant to serve as a check on the executive and legislative branches.

This executive order risks upending decades of precedent by concentrating too much power in the hands of one individual. If you believe in the separation of powers in our government, please consider signing our petition to hold Donald Trump accountable and defend the separation of powers: [[link removed]]
