FEBRUARY 2025 UPDATE FROM DR WAJID AKHTER
** New Vision, New Members, New Energy
------------------------------------------------------------
Assalamu alaikum!
What an extraordinary first month it has been working for you all. I've had the privilege of travelling across the country, meeting grassroots Muslims, and witnessing the remarkable work being done in our communities. Your feedback on MCB's role has been invaluable and inspiring.
As promised in my inaugural speech ([link removed]) , we've begun the 'open-heart surgery' of the Muslim Council of Britain. This past weekend, we convened an exceptional coalition of young professionals and introduced new teams to build a better MCB.
We've announced the decentralisation of our organisation, with regional hubs now driving our work forward. Find out how you can get involved here ([link removed]) . Additionally, we've brought together mosques to share best practices on addressing knife crime in their areas.
With Ramadan approaching, we're preparing to showcase the outstanding work of our community. Do visit our Ramadan hub ([link removed]) website for comprehensive resources and guidance.
Together, we're building a stronger, more dynamic MCB.
Warmest regards,
Dr Wajid Akhter - Secretary General

Knife crime is on the rise, with even young children being perpetrators and victims of attacks & murders.
We hosted a webinar with Green Lane Masjid in Birmingham and Balham Mosque in London who shared their stories and best practise and proposed how mosques can play their part in reducing this evil by removing knives & empowering the youth.

** MCB Urges National Strategy As Islamophobic Attacks Rise By 73%
------------------------------------------------------------

** Muslim Council of Britain Urges World to Rebuild Gaza and Stop the Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine
------------------------------------------------------------
What makes Gaza beautiful is not merely its buildings and infrastructure, but its people. Any suggestion of reconstruction that involves the removal of Palestinians from their homeland โ temporary or permanent โ must be recognised for what it is: ethnic cleansing by another name. Such proposals are morally reprehensible and contrary to international law..
