John— The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives—otherwise known as the ATF—is the law enforcement agency within the US Department of Justice tasked with enforcing our nation’s gun laws.  It’s also at risk of being thoroughly gutted—or even completely dissolved. But despite its critical importance to public safety, the agency was severely underfunded and understaffed for years.
