John—
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives—otherwise known as the ATF—is the law enforcement agency within the US Department of Justice tasked with enforcing our nation’s gun laws.
It’s also at risk of being thoroughly gutted—or even completely dissolved. This would be a disaster for our fight to end gun violence in America.
Our attorneys are doing everything they can to ensure the ATF remains well-resourced. Can you chip in today to help fuel our efforts?
The ATF is the only federal agency providing oversight of the gun industry. But despite its critical importance to public safety, the agency was severely underfunded and understaffed for years. This made it nearly impossible for the ATF to do its job properly—and made the agency susceptible to outside pressure, especially from the gun lobby.
This changed in 2022, when the Senate confirmed Steve Dettelbach as ATF director. He pushed the agency to take the most action on gun violence in years, actively reducing gun violence in our communities, before he stepped down earlier this month.
The gun lobby wants to keep the ATF from doing its job so it can boost its profits. Donate today to help us fight back.

In his first term, Trump all but ignored the ATF and allowed the gun lobby to effectively run the agency. It seems like he’s kicked off his second term by trying to wipe out numerous federal agencies—ATF could be next on the list.
We can’t let Donald Trump gut the ATF. Join us as we fight for the safety of all Americans.
Gratefully,
Laura
