Hey friend — We launched the 2024 California Environmental Scorecard yesterday and want to make sure you have a chance to check it out.
California faces some major challenges ahead, and it's more important than ever to hold our leaders to a high standard on climate. While we made some great progress last year with the largest climate funding initiative in California history by passing the $10 billion climate bond, we also saw rollbacks and delays on critical progress that stalled movement on climate action.
Here’s where you come in, friend.
The Scorecard isn’t just an education tool; it’s a tool for action. Take a moment to check out your representatives' grades and find out if they're leading the charge on climate action—or holding us back.
Then, give your legislators a call or email and let them know what you think of their scores. As their constituent, you have the power to hold your representatives accountable for making climate progress on your behalf.

Hey team —
We just launched the 2024 California Environmental Scorecard, and I'm so excited to share our insights with you.
This is California's big call to action. It was a year of action with a key landmark victory: the passage of Proposition 4, which secured $10 billion for climate resilience, wildfire mitigation, clean energy, and conservation. But budget cuts, failed climate bills, and delayed policy implementation set climate progress back—and we saw the consequences firsthand as destructive and unnatural wildfires raged in California earlier this month.
Today, we're releasing our annual California Environmental Scorecard, and California has received a B grade (84%) for 2024.

The Scorecard press conference is starting at 10 AM today, friend!
In a few moments, I'll be joined by four Climate Action Caucus champions (Congressman Dave Min, Assemblymember Lori Wilson, Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, and Assemblymember Dawn Addis) and previous Climate Action Caucus Champion Senator Ben Allen. We'll walk you through the Scorecard, reflect on how California fared in 2024, and discuss our priorities for 2025.
Will you join us to learn more about how California fared in 2024? [[link removed]]
Since 1973, we’ve released a Scorecard every year to keep EnviroVoters like you up-to-date on the climate actions of California's legislature and leadership (Governor, Speaker, and Pro-Tem).
This year, we tracked the outcome of 129 total environmental bills, 10 major pro-environmental actions, and two major anti-environmental actions to determine California's overall score. You can read more about how scoring works here: [link removed]
And we scored California's legislators too, tracking how they voted on key environmental bills and whether they took oil money. Look up your representatives to see how they fared and if they're one of the 51% of legislators who took oil money. [[link removed]]
Under the Trump administration, California has a massive call to action – to defend against the administration’s rollbacks and attacks on climate laws while leading the next wave of climate progress.
As we prepare for the challenges ahead, we need California leadership to step up in big ways. California has the unique power and responsibility to step up as a national and international leader on climate and set a worldwide standard for environmental innovation, justice, and progress.
I encourage you to spend some time looking over the Scorecard and learning about California’s climate actions in 2024. Thank you for taking advantage of this critical resource.
