** Reducing Food Insecurity Takes a Multifaceted Approach
------------------------------------------------------------
Food insecurity has surged in the U.S., reaching its highest level since 2014. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), 1 in 5 children and 1 in 7 individuals do not know where their next meal will come from.
This is contributed by increased costs of food due to inflation and the end of pandemic-related funding. Valley of the Sun United Way is leading efforts with a variety of community partners to address these challenges, the root causes of food insecurity, and ultimately, to support the development of healthy communities.

** A New Look for United Way

You may notice this newsletter looks a little different than some of the materials you’ve seen from Valley of the Sun United Way in the past.
In 2024, United Way Worldwide refreshed its brand to ensure the relevance and sustainability of one of the world’s oldest and largest charities for its next century of impact. Valley of the Sun United Way is following suit and will continue unveiling its new look as the year goes along in advance of our 100th anniversary.

** Valley of the Sun United Way Announces FY26 Request for Proposals
------------------------------------------------------------
Grant proposals due February 20
Valley of the Sun United Way is pleased to announce the opening of its 2025-2026 request for proposals for eligible nonprofits, schools and other community organizations operating throughout Maricopa County.
Through its community-driven MC2026 plan for Mighty Change, Valley of the Sun United Way brings together public, private and social sector partners so every child, family and individual is healthy, has a safe place to live and has every opportunity to succeed in school, work and life. These partners are a fundamental and critical component aligned to reach the bold goals of the MC2026 plan.
Applicants must align their community programs and/or services with the MC2026 priorities to improve outcomes in the areas of education, housing and homelessness, health and workforce development.

Wednesday, February 12
Join Valley of the Sun United Way for a Community Snack Pack Build. We will be assembling 1,000 Snack Packs to give out to the community to help combat food insecurity.
Beneficiaries will include nurses at Title 1 schools, Grassroots nonprofit partners and more!

Volunteers are needed to support Project Connect at the Salvation Army North West Valley Corps on February 26th, 2025.
Hosted by Keys to Change ([link removed]) , this semi-monthly event acts as a travelling one-stop-shop for individuals experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.
