John — as wildfires continue to tear through Southern California, displacing thousands of families and consuming entire neighborhoods, Donald Trump just made one thing clear: He doesn’t care.

In a recent Fox News interview, Trump threatened to withhold FEMA disaster relief funds from California. He claimed states should “take care of their own problems.”

This is no surprise. Trump has spent years politicizing disaster relief. After Hurricane Helene devastated North Carolina, Trump and his allies spread false claims that FEMA’s response was biased against Republicans and that funding was being diverted to help undocumented immigrants. It wasn’t true — but it didn’t stop him from trying to use the catastrophe to divide the American public and cast doubt on government programs designed to help communities.
