President Trump issued an executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship–the Constitution’s promise that if you are born here, you are a citizen. That order is flatly unconstitutional.

The 14th Amendment guarantees that everyone born in the United States is a citizen, period.

Trump’s executive order is a direct threat to this foundational principle of our democratic republic, undermines our nation’s commitment to inclusion, and endangers the rights of countless individuals.

It’s unfair. It’s un-American. And it’s illegal.

In Colorado, we believe in treating everyone with fairness and dignity under the rule of law. As Attorney General, I won’t stop standing for those values. I’m fighting tirelessly to ensure that our rights and our Constitution are protected — even if that means going to court against the White House.
