President Trump issued an executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship—the Constitution’s promise that if you are born here, you are a citizen. That order is flatly unconstitutional.

The 14th Amendment guarantees that everyone born in the United States is a citizen, period.

Trump’s executive order is a direct threat to this foundational principle of our democratic republic, undermines our nation’s commitment to inclusion, and endangers the rights of countless individuals.

It’s unfair. It’s un-American. And it’s illegal.

In Colorado, we believe in treating everyone with fairness and dignity under the rule of law. As Attorney General, I won’t stop standing for those values. I’m fighting tirelessly to ensure that our rights and our Constitution are protected—even if that means going to court against the White House. As Governor, I’ll continue that mission, no matter the challenge.
