Housing Affordability and Economic Productivity in London

Last autumn, analysis of the impact of housing affordability on London's economy ( [link removed] ) - jointly commissioned by London Councils, the Mayor of London, Trust for London, and the G15 group of social landlords - found that just a one per cent increase in housing affordability in London could yield a boost of £7.3 billion in economic output over a decade. You can read the report in full here ( #anchor37 )

Following that research, London Councils Deputy Chair and Executive Member for Housing & Regeneration Cllr Grace Williams will be among the keynote speakers at an online seminar on 30 January (2pm-3:30pm) that will: explore what the findings mean for London; consider how this methodology can be used, tested and further research produced; apply the findings to policy making; and explore regional solutions that create a positive spillover of benefits.

You can find out more and register to attend the online seminar here. ( [link removed] )

Children's Wellbeing and Schools

The Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill ( [link removed] ) entered its Committee Stage this week.

While London Councils welcomes many of the measures proposed in the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill that will help to improve the safeguarding of children and to raise educational standards, we also have a number of concerns about specific provisions within the bill relating to local authority powers to fulfil duties to identify and safeguard all children not in school, and for school place planning and admissions.

London Councils has submitted written evidence to the committee outlining these, which you can read here. ( [link removed] )

Freedom Pass renewal

By law, Freedom Passes must be renewed every five years. We have started contacting those pass holders who we believe have changed their address since their Freedom Pass was issued, asking them to renew. If you have received an email from the Freedom Pass team, please follow the instructions to renew your pass.
