Some evacuated residents are being permitted to return home, but it will take longer for residents in some of the most heavily impacted communities. Residents in the following areas are being permitted to return today:
*Eaton Fire*:
Residents in the following areas can return effective *3 p.m.* on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025.
* Inside the unincorporated area of Altadena: Southwest of *Altadena Drive*, north of *New York Drive*, east of *Allen Avenue*
Residents in the following "*soft-closure*" areas of the unincorporated area of Altadena can return with valid proof of residence:
* East of *Lake Avenue*, south of *Mendocino Lane*
* South of *Church Canyon Place*, east of *Old Toll Road*, west of *Sunset Ridge Road
*
*Entry and Exit Points* are located at the following intersections:
* *New York Drive* and *Allen Avenue*
* *New York Drive* and *Lake Avenue*
* *Canyon Crest Road* and *Lincoln Avenue*
* *La Vina Lane* and *Lincoln Avenue*

"*Soft closure *areas are closed to the general public. Only disaster crews, public safety personnel, and residents with identification can enter."
*Palisades Fire*:
Residents in the following areas are being permitted to return effective *Noon* on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025.
* For the communities off *Topanga Canyon Boulevard* from *Viewridge* to *Grandview Drive*.
* All communities off *Old Topanga Canyon Road*. *Fernwood Pacific* from *Topanga Canyon* to the intersection of *Tuna Canyon* and *Saddle Peak Road*.
* The unincorporated areas of *Monte Nido* and *Las Virgenes Road* between the *101 Freeway* and *Pacific Coast Highway*.
*Entry and Exit Points* are located at the following intersections:
* *Cold Canyon Road *and* Mulholland Highway*,
* *Old Topanga Canyon *and *Dry Canyon Cold Creek Road*
* *Topanga Canyon *and *Viewridge Drive*.

It will be at least a week before residents in heavily impacted areas can begin returning home. Inspections, search operations, and assessments are being conducted as quickly as possible to expedite residents’ safe return to their homes and properties. We will add damage assessments daily as they become available.

Every day, damage inspectors from LA County Fire and CalFire go from structure to structure in the Eaton and Palisades burn areas to assess the aftermath of the fires to structures, including homes and commercial spaces. The inspection teams are part of a multi-agency effort clearing the way for residents to return and rebuild.
