Some evacuated residents are being permitted to return home, but it will take longer for residents in some of the most heavily impacted communities. Residents in the following areas are being permitted to return today:
Eaton Fire:
Residents in the following areas can return effective 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025.
- Inside the unincorporated area of Altadena: Southwest of Altadena Drive, north of New York Drive, east of Allen Avenue
Residents in the following soft-closure areas of the unincorporated area of Altadena can return with valid proof of residence:
- East of Lake Avenue, south of Mendocino Lane
- South of Church Canyon Place, east of Old Toll Road, west of Sunset Ridge Road
Entry and Exit Points are located at the following intersections:

Canyon Crest Road and Lincoln Avenue

Soft closure areas are closed to the general public. Only disaster crews, public safety personnel, and residents with identification can enter.
Palisades Fire:
Residents in the following areas are being permitted to return effective Noon on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025.
- For the communities off Topanga Canyon Boulevard from Viewridge to Grandview Drive.
- All communities off Old Topanga Canyon Road. Fernwood Pacific from Topanga Canyon to the intersection of Tuna Canyon and Saddle Peak Road.
- The unincorporated areas of Monte Nido and Las Virgenes Road between the 101 Freeway and Pacific Coast Highway.
Entry and Exit Points are located at the following intersections:

Old Topanga Canyon and Dry Canyon Cold Creek Road

It will be at least a week before residents in heavily impacted areas can begin returning home.
