Dear John,

This new year I'm keeping my focus on the power of play and connection. When we play together, we build essential relationships <[link removed]> and skills that are the foundation for a better future. That is why we continue the commitment for every child to play every day.

Playworks is leading communities in play through our team of Playworks Coaches. In a new brief <[link removed]> developed in partnership with the Lego Foundation and UNICEF, the authors shared that Playworks Coaches model “positive behaviours such as kindness, inclusion, belonging, and power-sharing with children, [thus]
they influenced other teachers, caregivers, and adults who sought to experience a constructive, healthy relationship with children.”

By playing together, we create strong connections with other people – at all ages. Let’s continue our work together to build communities of play where every child and adult feel welcomed and connected.

Play on,

KIDS
Any Kid Can Be a Leader
Silent both in and out of the classroom, fifth grader Angel is not the student most adults would typically think of as a leader. Playworks Coach Isaiah, however, sees her potential. “What she doesn’t say in words, her actions speak volumes,” shared Isaiah.

SCHOOLS
Developing Strong Schools
Creating strong school communities isn’t easy. Associate Administrator Amere Watkin put in the hard work and did just this. “Playworks has brought us all together, celebrating our different backgrounds,” Mr. Watkins shared. Together Mr. Watkins and Playworks Coach Isaiah Marshall created a positive school culture of mutual respect, and fosters inclusivity and understanding in every child.

COMMUNITIES
Making Play Work in Any Space
It’s not uncommon for our communities to have limitations on where we can play. Whether dealing with poor weather, safety, or physical space, Playworks coaches have learned to make play work anywhere. In just one month, our experts will provide practical strategies to keep kids engaged, safe, and having fun to maximize your available space in a one-hour free webinar.

OUR SHARED FUTURE
Building a Foundation for Change
As we experience new beginnings in 2025, we still share a common goal: to get every kid playing every day. At Playworks, we are leaning into this commitment to create space where children feel a sense of belonging and purpose for us all.

Inequities touch every corner of our society, affecting both adults and kids, with consequences that are often long-lasting. For positive change to occur, we must understand each other and work together toward a more equitable society.
