Trump plans to approve permits to export dangerous methane gas, known as LNG, on day one of his presidency.1
Fortunately, we've recently had a significant win. The Department of Energy released a new report showing what communities living near these facilities have long known to be true: LNG methane gas exports are not in the public interest.2 They raise energy prices, harm local communities, and release climate emissions that we cannot afford.
The Biden Administration can still act to block LNG exports before Trump takes office in just five days, but they need to hear from more of us who care about our health and climate.

Friend,
We're all watching the climate crisis play out before our eyes. In just a few days, Trump will return to power with no plan to protect us. Instead, he’s handing the reins over to corporate polluters and billionaires, including planning to approve permits for methane gas exports (LNG) on day one.2 With Los Angeles in our hearts, we say: Enough is enough.
It has never been more urgent for us to drastically reduce emissions and transition to clean energy. Why then, are we continuing to expand methane gas exports that go to other countries while raising our energy costs here at home, devastating local communities, and making the climate crisis worse?
Economists, climate scientists, and even Biden's Department of Energy have concluded that the world does not need more gas.
We know the Biden administration is listening to our call for bold climate action. Last week, the administration blocked 625 million acres of federal water from all future oil and gas drilling, an area equivalent to nearly a quarter of the total land area of the United States. Trump won't be able to undo this action without an act from Congress, which has only the slimmest Republican majority.
This ban is a huge step to stop the oil and gas industry, and with the administration in their final days, they must act now! Biden's Department of Energy must also reject pending LNG methane gas exports, which will massively slow the Trump administration's ability to fast-track these projects.
The Biden admin has the chance to further protect our health, climate, and communities from fossil fuels. Friend, you can help push the administration by submitting a public comment demanding they act now!

Six proposed LNG terminals or expansion projects have already been approved by another federal regulator and are now seeking a license from the DOE to export fracked methane gas to other countries in Asia and Europe. Those living close to these facilities have long raised warnings of the harms of LNG exports, such as the widespread health impacts of polluted air and water and the decimation of local fishing economies.
Approving more methane gas LNG export licenses, or leaving the decision to the incoming Trump Administration, means:
- Supercharging the devastating destruction from climate change.
- Raising domestic energy prices across the country.
- Sacrificing more people living in the U.S. Gulf South and the destruction of local economies, often in predominantly Black and Brown communities – making this an environmental justice issue!
- Polluting the air we breathe and water we drink.
Enough is enough.
We have one final chance to demand that President Biden's DOE stop the massive LNG buildout harming the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Texas, and beyond.
Take action before it's too late: Urge DOE Secretary Granholm to deny LNG export licenses now.
