North Carolina judge denies Republicans’ request to toss 60,000 ballots
* In a victory for voters, a North Carolina court rejected ([link removed]) the Republican National Committee’s request to toss out 60,000 ballots cast in statewide races last November. The GOP claimed these voters did not provide the required ID when registering to vote.
* This is a separate lawsuit from North Carolina Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin's (R) bid to reject ([link removed]) 60,000 ballots in that race. However, both lawsuits aim to disenfranchise a large number of voters based on allegations of eligibility and ID issues.

SCOTUS declines to hear GOP anti-voting cases in 2025
* In another win for voters, the U.S. Supreme Court decided ([link removed]) not to take up a Republican appeal to review North Dakota's legislative map. The plaintiffs argued the state gerrymandered districts to give Native Americans excess power. A lower court rejected the claim.
* The nation’s highest court rejected ([link removed]) Phil Lyman's petition to overturn the result of the Utah Republican gubernatorial primary election held in June 2024.

Four voting rights cases SCOTUS may hear that could reshape elections

Judge allows release of report on Trump’s election subversion efforts
* Federal Judge Aileen Cannon allowed ([link removed]) the release of Jack Smith’s report about President-elect Donald Trump’s election subversion efforts. The report on Trump’s classified documents case remains withheld as criminal proceedings against defendants continue.

6th Circuit to hear case on Tennessee felony reenfranchisement system
* The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is scheduled ([link removed]) to hear oral argument tomorrow in a lawsuit challenging Tennessee’s method for restoring voting rights to individuals with prior felony convictions. Civil rights groups alleged the policy is “unequal, inaccessible, opaque, and error-ridden.”
