The LA Fires

ADL sends our strength and support to all of those affected by the deadly fires in Los Angeles, including family members and friends, ADL supporters and our own wonderful staff in our LA regional office.

As the fire spreads, anti-Israel groups are trying to spread incomprehensible claims connecting the disaster to Israel.

Deep Concerns About ‘Significant Steps Back’ by Meta

[link removed]

This week, Meta (owner of Facebook and Instagram) indicated that outside of some specific forms of harm it will no longer do proactive enforcement of their policies and will instead rely on user reporting. Our recent

report card shows, however, that Meta platforms responded to exactly zero cases of antisemitic content when the reporting came in through channels provided to average users.

Meta should focus their attention on prioritizing the protection of marginalized users. If all of this is the direction they are heading in 2025, it is a bad sign of what is to come for Jews and all marginalized people on their platforms.

Briefing the Knesset on Antisemitism: This week in Israel, ADL’s Jonathan Greenblatt took part in a hearing before the Knesset’s Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Committee, where he discussed the “inferno” of antisemitic incidents in the U.S. since 10/7. Greenblatt vowed that ADL would continue “to experiment with creative tactics to study the results and scale what works,” and encouraged others involved in addressing this crisis to try new tactics as well.

NOLA Conspiracy Lies & Theories: The deadly New Year’s attack in New Orleans, Louisiana, left a city reeling and social media awash in hateful lies and conspiracy theories about immigrants, Israel, Jews and a government cover-up. While law enforcement is still investigating his motive, police reportedly found an ISIS flag in the truck and the attacker, an Army veteran, wore military gear, including camouflage and body armor.

5 Things About the Palestine News Network: The Palestine News Network (PNN) is a group that harasses strangers, often Jews, prodding them about their stance on Palestine. Individuals associated with PNN have a history of entering neighborhoods with significant Jewish populations, or approaching those attending Jewish or Israel-related events, where they shoot videos that walk the line between “interview” and provocation. PNN posts videos and other content celebrating the death of Israelis, the Oct. 7 terror attacks, news of terror attacks in Israel, and expressing support for terror groups and dictators.

I’m beyond grateful to @FBIBoston and @beverlypd for apprehending the alleged suspect who called for violence against Jewish women & stockpiled ammunition for planned synagogue attacks. It’s another reminder of the real and immediate dangers facing the Jewish community.

#Metula has been one of the hardest hit communities by #Hezbollah’s rocket attacks against #Israel’s north since 10/7, which forced over 60,000 Israelis from their homes. I visited the city and met with some residents who embody resilience and hope.

It is unacceptable for Colombia’s President, @petrogustavo, to resort to antisemitic tropes about Jewish control of financial capital. His anti-Israel rhetoric & distortion of history fuels hatred and perpetuates dangerous myths.
