COVID-19 has changed so much about the way we live our lives. It's even changing one of the most fundamental institutions in this country -- our elections. The pandemic means that voting in person could put voters and poll workers at high risk of spreading or catching a deadly virus.

In Wisconsin, we saw the terrible consequences of unclear last-minute changes to voting systems. Many voters didn't receive their ballots in the mail in time and were forced to choose between exercising their democratic rights and protecting their health -- which is simply unacceptable.

It's clear, as we face a crisis of global proportions, we must protect the right to vote by moving to a national vote-by-mail system. Because in this nation, no one should have to choose between their ballot and their health.
