Folks, – I want to take a moment to thank the person who inspired me to be a public servant: Senator Tom Carper , who is officially retiring after 23 years in the Senate.

For nearly 50 years, he gave his all to Delaware and this country. When I first met him, I was a young mom of two who just wanted to make my neighbors’ lives better. I ultimately applied for his internship program, and ended up working in his Wilmington office. The rest is history!

Because of Tom, I learned the power of using public service to make positive change for everyone. Not only is he a hard worker and colleague who gets the job done, but he is a role mode and a friend.

I will miss Tom’s presence in Washington and in Delaware politics. But we will still feel his impact for generations to come.
