Hi John,

I spent many years playing a law student and then a lawyer on the hit ABC series How to Get Away with Murder. And while our show mainly focused on the drama in the lives of law students and lawyers, it also touched on the systemic failures of the criminal legal system.

When I saw the news about Robert Roberson, an innocent father who narrowly avoided execution in Texas, I was compelled to act. Like many of you, I called on Gov. Abbott to stop Robert's execution. Now, I’m asking you to join me in supporting the Innocence Project as they prepare to carry the fight into the new year.

John, we can’t turn our backs on the innocent people who are incarcerated right now. The Innocence Project is leading the fight to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. And they’re committed to continuing this work in 2025 and beyond — but they can’t do it alone. Will you make a 2X-matched gift right now to help advance their mission? All gifts made before Dec. 31 will go twice as far.

I may not have my J.D. in real life, but it doesn't take a lawyer to recognize that what has happened to Robert and the many other clients the Innocence Project represents is a grave miscarriage of justice — one that we all need to be actively engaged in stopping.

So, as we all prepare to ring in the new year with family and friends, we cannot forget about the innocent people behind bars who are spending another holiday, another celebration, and another year away from their loved ones.

That’s why I’m partnering with the Innocence Project and doing my part to help them reach their critical end-of-year goal so they can continue their life-changing work.

Before you ring in the new year with your loved ones on Dec. 31, will you join me in helping the Innocence Project continue their efforts to free the innocent and end wrongful convictions by making a 2X donation right now?

The Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. Founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the organization is now an independent nonprofit. Our work is guided by science and grounded in anti-racism.
