For almost 20 years, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region has been classified as the world’s most dangerous region for journalists. Authoritarian regimes wield harassment, cyberattacks, and violence to silence those who dare to expose corruption, human rights abuses, organized crime, and war profiteering.
Despite these dangers, OCCRP’s journalists and partners continue their critical work, holding the powerful accountable. Their investigations have led to criminal inquiries into corrupt officials across multiple countries. But this work comes at a high cost: cyber attacks, trauma, displacement, and the constant threat of violence.
Senior editor for the Middle East and North Africa, Rana Sabbagh, has experienced this reality facing many journalists in the region. See more in the video below. ([link removed])

You can donate today ([link removed]) and help equip journalists with the tools and resources they need to combat these attacks from autocrats and authoritarians.
OCCRP provides comprehensive support, including encrypted communications, security training, and mental health resources. Together, we can expand the resources needed to keep journalists safe as they risk everything to uncover the truth.
Don’t let them kill the story.
