For almost 20 years, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region has been classified as the world’s most dangerous region for journalists. Authoritarian regimes wield harassment, cyberattacks, and violence to silence those who dare to expose corruption, human rights abuses, organized crime, and war profiteering. 

Despite these dangers, OCCRP’s journalists and partners continue their critical work, holding the powerful accountable. Their investigations have led to criminal inquiries into corrupt officials across multiple countries. But this work comes at a high cost: cyber attacks, trauma, displacement, and the constant threat of violence.
