We Got Played 🙄

<[link removed]>

It’s been another lousy week for the taxpayers.

More bad bills with sky-high price tags were flying all over the place—but
same story, different year. In the mad dash before Christmas (when no one’s
watching), D.C. bureaucrats make their move with a bloated monstrosity they
call a “CR.”

In case you need a refresher, CR stands for continuing resolution.
Translation? A stack of mumbo jumbo that will fund the government without a
shred of concern for the mountain of debt we’re in. This kind of reckless
spending is what caused the worst inflation infour decades
<[link removed].>
and crushing prices that still haven't returned to normal.

This is not what America voted for, and for that reason, I was a hard “no”
from the start. But here's how it all went down: Thursday night, the funding
billfailed miserably

in the House. We all agreed (or so I thought) that we needed to hack this
thing into separate, single-issue bills as they oughta be.And wouldn't you
know, it didn't happen—but everyone still went right along with it.

A huge number of Democrats voted for it and Republicans jumped right in. We
got played, and now we’re stuck with a continuation of the same bad spending
policies we had under the Pelosi/Schumer regime.

If you’ve been around awhile, you know this is the hill
<[link removed]>
I’m ready to die on. I also voted against the National Defense Authorization
Act (NDAA) last week, which costs $9 billion more than it did last year,
despite the Pentagon failing its seventh consecutive audit.

Here’s the truth: we haven’t passed a budget in decades
<[link removed]>
—something we’re mandated to do. I can’t in good conscience sit here and vote
“yes” on more reckless spending. All that does is pour fuel on the dumpster
fire of debt Uncle Sam already has to his name.

You’re about to hear plenty of folks saying, “Look what we did! We got a clean
spending bill!” Don’t buy it. There isn’t anything clean about what’s
happening. This is a broken way of governing, and we’re failing the American
people.

We can do better.

We should do better.

And I’ll keep holding the line until we do.

Honoring Our Heroes 🇺🇲

<[link removed]>

Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies across the country
every Christmas, and I was proud to lend a helping hand in Tennessee last
weekend.

This is one of my favorite events each year because I’m thankful for any
opportunity I get to honor my father, a brave World War II veteran, and the
countless other heroes who courageously fought for our country.

Each time a volunteer places a wreath on a veteran's grave, they’re asked to
speak that veteran's name out loud and thank them for their service and
sacrifice. This makes for powerful moments that reflect a grateful nation—just
as it should be.

My heart goes out to those currently serving our country this time of year.
Many of them will miss spending Christmas with their families because they’re
somewhere far away, working to keep us safe and free. We live in the greatest
country in the world, thanks to you!
