Itās been another lousy week for the taxpayers.Ā
Ā
More bad bills with sky-high price tags were flying all over the placeābut same story, different year. In the mad dash before Christmas (when no oneās watching), D.C. bureaucrats make their move with a bloated monstrosity they call a āCR.ā
Ā
In case you need a refresher, CR stands for continuing resolution. Translation? A stack of mumbo jumbo that will fund the government without a shred of concern for the mountain of debt weāre in. This kind of reckless spending is what caused the worst inflation inĀ four decadesĀ and crushing prices that still haven't returned to normal.
Ā
This is not what America voted for, and for that reason, I was a hard ānoā from the start. But here's how it all went down: Thursday night, the funding bill failed miserably in the House. We all agreed (or so I thought) that we needed to hack this thing into separate, single-issue bills as they oughta be. And wouldn't you know, it didn't happenābut everyone still went right along with it.
Ā
A huge number of Democrats voted for it and Republicans jumped right in. We got played, and now weāre stuck with a continuation of the same bad spending policies we had under the Pelosi/Schumer regime.
Ā
If youāve been around awhile, you knowĀ this is the hillĀ Iām ready to die on.Ā I alsoĀ voted against the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) last week, which costs $9 billion more than it did last year, despite the Pentagon failing its seventh consecutive audit.
Ā
Hereās the truth: we havenāt passed a budget inĀ decadesāsomething weāre mandated to do. I canāt in good conscience sit here and vote āyesā on more reckless spending. All that does is pour fuel on the dumpster fire of debt Uncle Sam already has to his name.
Ā
Youāre about to hear plenty of folks saying, āLook what we did! We got a clean spending bill!ā Donāt buy it. There isnāt anything clean about whatās happening. This is a broken way of governing, and weāre failing the American people.
Ā
We can do better.
Ā
We should do better.
Ā
And Iāll keep holding the line until we do.
