Reflecting on Our Impact and Renewing Our Energy for the Future

As 2024 draws to a close, we’re inspired by the work we do together through the Energy Democracy Project. Together with collaborators and allies, we’ve made incredible strides toward a more just and regenerative energy future:
These achievements, made possible by our shared collaboration, are a testament to the power of community-led solutions in the face of mounting challenges to clean energy and democracy itself.
Our Narrative is Being Noticed!
The Congressional Energy and Commerce Committee’s November 2024 report targeted the environmental justice community and Justice40 programs, specifically attacking the Energy Democracy Project’s work for "supporting an energy economy that bans natural gas and fossil fuels." When those invested in maintaining the status quo feel threatened enough to single us out, it’s a clear sign that our work is making an impact and shifting the conversation toward justice!
Looking Ahead to 2025

The fight for energy democracy is more urgent than ever. With new political threats to clean energy policies and community control, we’re determined to:
* Hire three full-time staff members to expand and sustain the Energy Democracy Project’s movement-building work.
* Advocate for policy breakthroughs like virtual power plants and debt relief for marginalized communities.
* Host regional and national convenings to deepen the movement's reach and fortify collaborations.
* Continue and expand the work of the REFOCUS campaign to grow a shared narrative for our movement.
* Drive the Debt Jubilee initiative, empowering communities burdened by predatory utility debt.

To accomplish this, we’re setting a bold goal to raise $400,000 by March 31, 2025. These resources will allow us to strengthen our team, our sustainability, our communications infrastructure, our operations, to support local battles, and build resilience against federal attacks on clean energy initiatives.
