Email from Rep. Van Duyne As we approach 2025...   Washington, D.C. - Yesterday, I voted against continuing Pelosi-Schumer levels of spending. We’ve seen the painful and persistent inflation created by years of wasteful government spending, which is why I’ve consistently voted against continuing this enormous deficit spending. I have tremendous faith that a second Trump Administration, supported by Republican majorities in the House and Senate, will allow us to make major reforms to slash federal spending and job-killing regulations while delivering tax cuts to empower the growth needed to expand our way out of deficits and make progress against the national debt. Click here for more information about my vote. On Monday, I had a great meeting with North Texan Kathy Smith, founder of Bank Compensation Consulting in Plano, to discuss how I’m working to support Texas-24 families and small businesses by reforming our tax code. Tuesday, I met with Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh of Pakistan to discuss the relationship between our countries. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I’m working to ensure access to foreign markets and opportunities to counter China. After, I joined my colleagues for the first meeting of our Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) caucus. Cutting wasteful spending and lowering our national debt has been one of my top priorities which is why I introduced the Government Offices Realignment and Closure Act (GORAC) last year. I’m excited to continue this work with likeminded individuals who want to bring fiscal responsibility back to Washington. Then, I headed to the House floor to support the Jenna Quinn Law, which I’m pleased to share was passed unanimously by the House. Jenna Quinn, a North Texan, has spent the last 20 years advocating for fellow survivors of child sexual abuse and working to ensure stronger protections for children in our area and nationwide. After meeting with Jenna over the summer, I cosponsored this bill to provide students, teachers, and caregivers with resources to better protect children from sexual abuse. I was honored to be chosen this week to lead the Republican Study Committee's Budget and Spending Task Force for 119th Congress! I’ve served on this task force since I first took office because North Texans are fed up with the status quo of Washington's overspending. Thursday morning I enjoyed seeing my friend Tom Homan at our Border Security Caucus meeting! I appreciated hearing his ideas for tackling sanctuary cities, cracking down on illegal crossings, and stopping the flow of fentanyl into our communities. I was excited to chat with him about the new effort I launched to deport criminal aliens from our communities by empowering our mayors and local law enforcement to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. After, I had the chance to take some visitors out on our balcony to see our view of the U.S. Capitol! If you're planning a trip to Washington and want to see this hidden gem, contact our office! Today, I introduced the Voter Eligibility Verification Act to ensure states have the information they need to secure their elections from illegal immigrants. You can read more about it in my Work of the Week section. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! Texas-24 Work of the Week When Texas wanted to ensure only U.S. citizens were voting in our elections, USCIS purposely slow-rolled the transfer of necessary data. I'm working to ensure state leaders have the tools they need to protect election integrity. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is 85 year old Dr. Ramesh Sharma of Fort Worth. Dr. Sharma received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Arlington last weekend, proving age is no barrier for lifelong learners!
