CLINICAL & WELLNESS SERVICES ARE MORE THAN JUST A SERVICE
Dear Lifesaver,
Access to clinical and wellness care can be the turning point for someone rebuilding their life.
Meet Alicia, who faced a series of overwhelming challenges before joining the Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC), including economic hardship, mental health struggles, and legal troubles.
As a single mother, she battled poverty, homelessness, and burnout despite her education and hard work as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. In 2021, Alicia found herself being indicted in a federal RICO case, Alicia deeply regretted the choices she had made to provide for her family. Her struggles with anxiety, insomnia, and guilt were compounded by past traumas, including the loss of her father and brother and the collapse of a significant relationship.
FINDING A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE
Upon joining ARC, Alicia found the support she needed through a life coach, access to mental health services, and renewed therapy, which allowed her to begin rebuilding her life with a focus on community, love, and healthier relationships.
“Being part of the ARC community means so much to me—it’s an honor and a privilege. ARC helped bring my cousin, Derrick Winston, home after being a lifer, providing him with programs, counseling, and support with his parole packet and milestones.
I’m forever grateful to ARC and the incredible people like Cesar Zuniga and J’Mel Carter who made his release possible. ARC inspires me to continue growing, pursue my education in cybersecurity, and one day start my own nonprofit to provide transitional housing and economic stability for formerly incarcerated individuals.”
FROM HOPELESSNESS TO HEALING
Alicia benefited greatly from the mental health support she received at ARC, ([link removed]) including peer groups focused on healthy relationships, anger management, and managing stress, as well as four months of psychotherapy. During her sessions, she addressed deep-seated emotions tied to past domestic violence, family dysfunction, feelings of failure, and anger toward her children’s father.
Alicia, like many, grappled with feelings of hopelessness and comparison, but therapy helped her gain perspective, acceptance, and peace, allowing her to reconnect with her faith. Although revisiting her past was emotionally challenging, Alicia recognized the importance of confronting it to achieve mental health and prevent negativity from consuming her. Her experience taught her the value of seeking support and staying open to help during overwhelming times.
Thanks to supporters like you, at ARC, we provide trauma-informed services that help individuals heal and thrive—but we need your help ([link removed]) to keep this work going.
Consider helping ARC today by making a donation that will be matched by our partner for up to $35,000. ([link removed]) This means twice the resources to support our Clinical & Wellness Department services, giving those we serve the tools to overcome trauma and move forward.
Your gift isn’t just a donation—it’s hope, healing, and redemption ([link removed]) . It is the gift of a future for someone ready to change their life. ([link removed])
Thank you for standing with us in this mission.

Sincerely,
Sam Lewis
