Email from Tarrant County Republican Party The plan to steal the speakership and how you can stop it DONATE NOW to Help Win the Local Elections! County Chairmen Letter Our Chairman Bo French has spearheaded an effort to unite the Republican County Chairmen across the State of Texas to call on our legislators to back David Cook, whom the Republican Caucus has nominated for Speaker of the House. As of publication of this newsletter, there are 113 signers, and the list is growing. You can read the letter HERE. Apart from these 113 County chairmen, many big names have come out in support of David Cook, including Governor Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Patrick, Donald Trump Jr, and several of our Congressmen. Many have reported that the Chairman of the Texas Republican County Chairmens' Association, David Luther, has been calling county chairmen across the state telling them not to sign the letter. It's clear that, so far, those efforts have failed. Fort Worth City Council With the retirement of long-time Fort Worth City Manager David Cooke - not to be mistaken with Tarrant County Rep and Speaker Candidate David Cook - the Fort Worth City Council initiated a search for a new city manager, and the verdict is out. The new city manager will be Jay Chapa, who has a long history of supporting large projects in the city. The radicals on the City Council, however, decided to throw a fit. Councilmen Nettles and Williams (both radical leftists) brought protesters to the latest city council meeting and held a press conference attacking the Mayor and City Council. Mayor Parker and a majority of the City Council, including all the Republican members, put out a statement defending the hire. You can read that HERE. There isn't much more to say about this incident, other than to highlight the need to replace the radicals on the Fort Worth City Council. We're looking forward to the May Elections! Burrows Update/Secret Ballot When we came to you last Saturday, the Republican Caucus vote to nominate a Speaker candidate was taking place later that day. Ultimately, David Cook won the nomination, but not without drama from the Phelan/Bush camp. In the first round of voting, Cook came in first place over Dustin Burrows but didn't have enough to take the nomination. Once the Burrows and Phelan crowd realized they couldn't get the votes, they walked out of the meeting with their allies - just like the Democrats did a few sessions ago. After that, Cook handily won the nomination. Dustin Burrows, Dade Phelan, and his team are still scheming in an attempt to steal the Speakership from David Cook by working with the Democrats. As we hinted at last weekend, they will likely attempt to do so through a secret ballot. If you would like to read a thorough breakdown of the precedent behind secret ballots in the Texas House and exactly HOW Burrows will likely do it, you can click HERE for an informative thread that breaks it down. Cornyn Race Update Late last week a story broke in the Dallas Express that our Chairman was considering a primary challenge to Cornyn. You can read the article HERE. Chairman French issued a statement once the rumors were reported. His statement is below: "After the Tarrant County GOP achieved historic success in the November election, people from all over Texas began asking me to consider challenging John Cornyn in the 2026 primary. A race of that magnitude would be difficult, but I am confident Texas voters want a U.S. Senator who fights to put America First and works with Donald Trump to appoint his Cabinet and enact his agenda. Right now, John Cornyn is failing on both fronts. My current focus is continuing to make Tarrant County more red, ensuring Texas leads the nation, and most importantly my four kids, but I am not ruling anything out." Share The Roundup with Friends!
