Burrows Update/Secret Ballot
When we came to you last Saturday, the Republican Caucus vote to nominate a Speaker candidate was taking place later that day. Ultimately, David Cook won the nomination, but not without drama from the Phelan/Bush camp.
In the first round of voting, Cook came in first place over Dustin Burrows but didn't have enough to take the nomination. Once the Burrows and Phelan crowd realized they couldn't get the votes, they walked out of the meeting with their allies - just like the Democrats did a few sessions ago. After that, Cook handily won the nomination.
Dustin Burrows, Dade Phelan, and his team are still scheming in an attempt to steal the Speakership from David Cook by working with the Democrats. As we hinted at last weekend, they will likely attempt to do so through a secret ballot.
If you would like to read a thorough breakdown of the precedent behind secret ballots in the Texas House and exactly HOW Burrows will likely do it, you can click HERE for an informative thread that breaks it down.
