** January Membership Meeting:
Meet Our New York State Senators & Assemblymembers
------------------------------------------------------------

Get ready for our first Membership Meeting of 2025! Join us on Saturday, January 11th at 10:00 AM ([link removed]) for a chance to meet our New York State Senators and Assemblymembers. We have invited them all to attend, tell us a little about who they are and how they plan to represent us and hear about environmental and climate justice policies we would like them to support actively. To date, New York State Assemblymember Manny De Los Santos (District 72) and Assemblymember-Elect Jordan Wright (District 70) have confirmed attendance, but we expect more to attend.

You don’t have to be a WE ACT member to attend (though it only costs $25 per year – learn more here ([link removed]) ). Come join us and get involved with our state policy initiatives ([link removed]) we are championing in the 2025 legislative session! RSVP ([link removed])

** NYU Students Support WE ACT
------------------------------------------------------------

We were awarded $29K from the Philanthropy and Social Difference class at New York University's Gallatin School in a competitive bid the students conducted to determine which nonprofits they wanted to fund. WE ACT, the Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy, and the Louisiana Abortion Fund were the three selected from the nearly 70 groups participating. Rachel Wissner (pictured above, far left) accepted the donation on behalf of WE ACT.

** Before You Shop: Learn Which Stores Are Selling You Toxic Products & Which Are Trying to Keep You Safe
------------------------------------------------------------

The 2024 Retailer Report Card has been released by our friends at Toxic-Free Future ([link removed]) . It reviews major retailers in the U.S. and Canada to see who is safeguarding our health and who is selling us toxic products. For example, we learned that Sephora is working hard to keep toxins out of the products it sells, but Sally Beauty is most definitely not - so buyer beware! We encourage you to give it a look before you start your holiday shopping. Read the Report ([link removed]) & Read the Announcement ([link removed])

** End of an Era: Charles Callaway
------------------------------------------------------------

Charles Callaway, our colleague for the past 17 years, is moving on to the next chapter of his fascinating career – which has been documented here ([link removed]) , here ([link removed]) , and here ([link removed]) . Charles has been a cornerstone of our work in Harlem – from the Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot and the 125th Street Rezoning to Workforce Development and Solar Uptown Now. If you have a chance, take Evelyn’s lead (pictured above) and swing by the Columbus Circle Holiday Market ([link removed]) where Charles and his wife, Marie, have a pop-up shop (D8 on this map ([link removed]) ) selling scarves and other accessories
– all designed by the big man himself – as they do every holiday season.
