Exonerations are exciting moments for us at the Innocence Project. Not only does it mean that one of our clients is reunited with their loved ones, but it also means that the legal process that put them in prison is officially over, and they are finally free.
Just last week, we had our third exoneration of the year. On Dec. 3, 2024, Sandra Hemme was officially exonerated after being wrongfully incarcerated for 43 years. Sandra was the longest-known wrongfully incarcerated woman in American history.
With the help of people like you, our dedicated intake team, and attorneys and legal staff, this year, we were able to help reunite three individuals with their loved ones after decades of wrongful incarceration.
John, will you take a moment to get to know them better?

Our work wouldn’t be possible without your support, John. So please, take a moment to learn more about the cases of Renay Lynch, Marvin Grimm Jr., and Sandra Hemme — and how together, we helped restore their freedom.

Thank you so much for being a part of our work, John.

The Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. Founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the organization is now an independent nonprofit. Our work is guided by science and grounded in anti-racism.
