Friend,
Have you heard the news?
New York City passed a groundbreaking new ban on marijuana drug testing as condition of employment – the first of its kind in the country!
The Drug Policy Alliance worked with the New York City Council and our #MarijuanaJustice allies on a legislative package that addresses multiple facets of marijuana criminalization- including removing marijuana as a violation of probation. You can see a comprehensive snapshot of our #MarijuanaJustice bills included in the package here: [link removed]
Although these shifts are focused at the municipal level, they have the potential to impact hiring practices across the country. The Baltimore Council is already considering a similar bill to ban marijuana testing for employment in city jobs.
New York City is the example. Soon, more will follow.

The fight is not over. We remain committed to passing marijuana reform that is centered in economic and racial justice.
It’s time to end the war on marijuana and address the damage that decades of criminalization and targeted enforcement has done to communities – and address the full scope of harms that prohibition wreaks in housing, education, child welfare, and many more areas that impact hundreds of thousands of people.
Thank you for your support.
