Someone asked me recently how I handle the difficult moments in this job without becoming discouraged. Every time we speak out for our rights, every time we try to expand access to basic health care, we come up against really powerful forces. So how do we keep going?

I'll tell you what I told them. First, I believe in Planned Parenthood's mission right down to my bones. When people count on you to stick up for their health and rights, there's no time for defeatism and no room for despair.

But the other thing, the big thing that keeps me going -- it's seeing that same determination in Planned Parenthood supporters from every corner of the country.
