Dear friend,
I’m excited to share with you that I was just officially confirmed as the 29th Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus!
From my first swearing-in to Congress in 2007 to now becoming the first woman from New York to lead the Congressional Black Caucus, I’ve fought tooth and nail to enact policies that will uplift Black communities across America. As chair, you have my word that I’ll continue to be at the forefront of the fight for a more just future.
I don’t take this honor lightly — I’m following in the footsteps of giants like Rep. Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress and a founding member of the CBC, and Rep. Edolphus Towns, my Brooklyn colleague and the last New Yorker to lead the CBC.
The CBC must continue to be the conscience of Congress. With 62 members, we’ve got a record number of lawmakers in the CBC, and as my colleague Rep. Greg Meeks said, we’ve got a full choir ready to be loud, clear, and consistent in our opposition to the incoming administration.
Friend, I’m looking forward to leading my colleagues in our fight to uplift the needs and priorities of the American people and hold the MAGA administration accountable for any challenges to our rights and freedoms — will you donate today and help power this fight I'm spearheading against the GOP’s extremist agenda?
