John,
While our emails usually focus on current news, research and our own reporting, this one will take you behind the scenes at California Policy Center.
Cal Policy’s primary objective: building and equipping a network of leaders – from the state capitol to local school districts – empowered and willing to rein in government union power and reform the state!
* We've launched aggressive media campaigns and stopped some of Sacramento's worst ideas from becoming law.
* We’ve helped local elected officials understand how to wield the powers of their office.
* We’ve hosted dozens of events statewide for our growing network of parent activists.
* We’ve educated government workers on their rights to leave their unions and helped tens of thousands of employees through the process.
* We’ve taken on corrupt special interests and rogue bureaucrats in the courts and Sacramento.
Join me on offense – fighting for freedom and a renewed sense of the California Dream.
Today you can help us take on some of the biggest obstacles facing Californians who have no voice. ([link removed])

Kern County, in California’s Central Valley, is being destroyed by a perfect storm of laws, regulations and lawsuits designed to eliminate oil and farming. Those industries have sustained Kern’s economy—and California and the nation’s—for over a century. But abetted by bureaucrats and opportunistic litigators, state officials have denied oil drillers and farmers the permits they need to operate, hit them with fines and crippling regulations, cut off their water, and sued them into oblivion...

WILL SWAIM | PRESIDENT
Just-released state test scores show that the Orange County Classical Academy, a charter school in a working-class neighborhood in the city of Orange, is among the best schools in California. OCCA students outperform their peers in surrounding schools in English by 71 percent proficient versus 58 percent, 66 percent versus 46 percent in math and 54 percent versus 39 percent in science, despite OCCA’s funding disadvantage.
It’s no surprise then that OCCA has a waiting list of over 1,000 students...
