Since our founding, IPA has functioned as the research and development engine of the international development sector, conducting over 1,000 evaluations in 60 countries, answering the question of what works to eliminate poverty, what doesn’t, and why. We bring together researchers, governments, funders, and organizations to discover and advance what works to reduce poverty—and our impact ripples outward in remarkable ways:

showed that charging even small fees for insecticide-treated bednets for malaria prevention significantly reduced their use, it led to widespread free distribution programs that have protected millions of individuals and families.

Our research helped dispel a common belief in development: that giving money directly to people living in poverty would be wasteful. The evidence

proved otherwise, leading governments and organizations worldwide to embrace cash transfers as an effective policy, spurring millions of additional dollars to cash transfer programs and creating a standard of comparison for other programs.

IPA and partners have conducted extensive research

demonstrating that grouping students by learning level rather than age or grade significantly improves student attendance, enrollment, and test scores, improving outcomes for children in many countries around the world.

School-based deworming programs

, backed by IPA research, have expanded across continents, dramatically improving children's health and school attendance and increasing earnings 20 years later.
