Email from Tarrant County Republican Party Texas roads are about to look like Kathmandu DONATE NOW to Help Win the Local Elections! Happy Thanksgiving We hope you had a happy Thanksgiving and that your liberal relatives were more docile in the aftermath of Trump's historic victory. We'll keep it short this time so as to not distract from your holiday. In this edition of the Roundup, we're giving you a sneak peek of some of what we have planned for the legislative session. Bills Filed by our Representatives For the upcoming legislative session, we intend to help keep you informed not only of what is going on in the session overall but especially to keep you informed on what our Tarrant County elected officials are up to. While the session hasn't begun, bills are being filed by our representatives. We wanted to begin informing you about how our Tarrant County representatives are doing by telling you about a few bills that they have already filed. HB 1427 by Rep. Schatzline would keep the state, counties, cities, etc from denying benefits to private schools on the basis that they are religious institutions. Currently, entities can discriminate against educational institutions on the basis of religious affiliation. This bill would fix that, so that religious schools will be treated on an equal playing field and not discriminated against just for being religious. HB 166 by Rep. Capriglione would expand the crime of endangering a child, elderly person, or disabled person to include fentanyl. Currently, it is considered endangerment for someone to manufacture, possess, or introduce methamphetamine into someone's body in the presence of a child, elderly person, or disabled person. By adding fentanyl to the list, this bill would help to protect Texans and crack down on fentanyl production and distribution. As of the writing of this newsletter, Reps. Tinderholt, McQueeney, Lowe, and Cook have not pre-filed any bills. This isn't abnormal, as the session doesn't begin for over a month. Once more bills are filed, we will be here to tell you about them! Bad Bill Highlights HB 1472 by Meza: this strange bill would require driver's license applications and exams to have a Nepali-only option for Nepalese who don't speak English. That is exactly what we need - yet another way for the state to ensure that you and your children share the road with people who don't speak or read our language and can't read our road signs. In case you're wondering - traffic isn't great in Nepal. HB 224 by Rosenthal: currently our laws prevent government entities from contracting with any company that advocates sanctions on Israel, is anti-second amendment, or is anti-oil; not if Rep. Rosenthal has anything to say about it! This bill would overturn those statutes, so that our elected officials can give money to activists bent on stopping oil, taking away your guns, and destroying Israel. HB 226 by Meza: Rep. Meza gets a double feature this week. This bill would make it so that there is no way for Texans to manufacture firearms without receiving a federal license. In the wake of a historic conservative mandate across our state, the Democrats are still trying to take away your guns! Opportunities for Legislative Activism As we've mentioned before, we will provide opportunities through the legislative session for conservatives interested in making their voices heard in Austin to take a bus down to the legislature for activism days. If this is something you're interested in, stay posted! We will begin to release details closer to the beginning of the session. Share The Roundup with Friends!
