** Proposed laws aim to create a smoke-free generation
The Tobacco and Vapes Bill will ban the sale of cigarette for those currently aged 15 or under, aiming to create a smokefree generation. The legislation also gives government the powers to extend smoking bans to outdoor spaces like playgrounds and school premises. The government has said that this will not include hospitality spaces like pub gardens.
The bill also seeks to regulate vaping by banning vape advertising and giving government powers to regulate flavours and packaging. Disposable vapes are set to be banned from mid-2025, and a tax on vape liquids will take effect in 2026. These measures aim to curb both smoking and youth vaping as part of broader public health efforts.

Lancashire Police, in collaboration with trading standards officers, confiscated over £30,000 worth of illicit tobacco during targeted operations in Blackpool. Raids on premises in Bond Street and Lytham Road resulted in the seizure of thousands of cigarette packets and hundreds of tobacco pouches.
