Dear John,

I’m Julia, and in honor of Giving Tuesday, I want to share a bit of my story with you. A story that wouldn’t have been possible without your incredible support. ([link removed])

When I was born in 1974, my family was involved in a restrictive religious group that discouraged higher education and the pursuit of personal dreams. I saw peers who dared to go to university become ostracized while those who dropped out of school to devote themselves to the group were applauded. For years, I believed my dreams did not matter.

It wasn’t until I was 36 that I found the courage to break free from the life I had known and start over. Even though it meant losing relationships with friends and family who remained involved, I had to leave for my own emotional health and for my son's sake.

As a single mother, I faced enormous challenges, including raising a child with a learning disability. Yet, I was determined to create a better life for my family. Returning to school in my 40s to pursue a diploma in marketing was one of the hardest, but most rewarding, decisions I’ve ever made. This award not only helped me afford tuition, but it also gave me the belief that my dreams were worth pursuing.

With the education I gained, I’ve been able to advance my career and provide financial stability for my family. Today, I work as a content manager for Best Access Doors, and I take immense pride in the example I’m setting for my children—that no matter the obstacles, it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.
