After failing to secure enough votes in 2019, more than 1,000 University of Pittsburgh graduate student workers voted in favor of unionizing with the United Steelworkers ([link removed]) . The university said it would begin the good faith bargaining process with the students.

Also, when a Comfort Inn & Suites opened in 2021 on East Ohio Street, it encouraged nearby residents and business owners who hoped the corridor would transform into a restaurant row. This year, the hotel filed for bankruptcy. Depending on the results of an auction, the East Allegheny property could become housing for those with housing vouchers ([link removed]) . The proposal has brought mixed feelings from community members.
