Watch our videos and hear what parents told us

Friend,

“Kids need to live their life as kids.” So why are social media companies allowing them to be constantly exposed to online harms?

This question was asked by one of the parents we interviewed in Washington, DC, and it was echoed by other parents who shared their stories with us in London and by email.

Regardless of where they are, parents told us they have an endless list of worries when it comes to their kids being online: What if they encounter dangerous body image content? What if a stranger sends their kids a message? How are never-ending timelines affecting their mental health? What is the impact of waves of misinformation on their kids’ perception of the word?

Parents have a lot to say, but they are not alone. Watch our video to hear what they shared:

Kids are the future. Yet, we are letting unaccountable social media companies take control of our kids’ time and minds. It’s time to demand change - and parents know it.

“There are plenty of ways to make these platforms safer that probably wouldn’t cost them much. And even if they did, it would still be the right thing to do,” said another parent. Parents are not alone: CCDH is working to hold social media companies accountable for the harms they create to kids.

Together, we can amplify parents’ voices and help them reach social media bosses and lawmakers. Help us raise awareness by sharing our video with your friends and family. You can also share your own story by tagging us on social media or writing to [email protected].

Social media companies must put kids’ safety ahead of profit. While this doesn’t happen, CCDH created a Parents Guide to help parents and caregivers navigate the internet with their kids. Download it here for free.

Best wishes,

The CCDH Team
