Hey
I know this time of chaos and uncertainty can feel devastating
and impossible. But crises are never simply endings; the are
beginnings as well.
In A Paradise Built in Hell, Rebecca Solnit captures the spirit
of resilience and reconnection that follows a crisis. She
chronicles the events that came after the 1906 Earthquake of San
Francisco, Hurricane Katrina, 9/11 and others and examines human
resilience in times of crisis. What she finds in her research is
that disasters donβt just destroy, they create. They bring out
the best in humanity β not a relentless instinct to defend and
survive, but a community spirit that is almost contagious.
In the aftermath of these disasters were random acts of kindness,
deep altruism, unparalleled cooperation, a renewed civic
temperament, even joy. Yes, joy. βJoy doesnβt betray but sustains
activism,β writes Solnit. It becomes an opportunity for people to
see how good life can be when the system breaks down and itβs no
longer business as usual. βIf paradise now arises in hell, it is
because in the suspension of the usual order and the failure of
most systems, we are free to live and act another way.β And it is
in the breakdown β in the falling apart of structures and the
dismantling of systems β that healing can emerge. We find
ourselves in those spaces β the parts of us that are resilient
and creative and subversive β and we remember that we have the
power to transform ourselves and one another.
The Power of Play
-----------------
In times of crisis - when the urge is to cling to control, to
demand certainty, to lose ourselves to work - the most unexpected
and generative choice is to play. Play isnβt just for kids; itβs
a vital component of our emotional and physical well-being.
Engaging in playful activities can help regulate our nervous
systems, fostering resilience and creativity even in the most
challenging times.
Hereβs how play can help us self-regulate:
* Releases Stress: Laughter and joy trigger the release of
endorphins, which can help lower stress levels and promote
relaxation.
* Fosters Connection: Playful interactions strengthen our
relationships and create a sense of community, providing support
during tough times.
* Encourages Exploration: Engaging in play invites us to step
outside our comfort zones, stimulating curiosity and creativity,
and allowing us to find new perspectives.

When we make space for rest and play, we expose
everything that is in the way of our becoming - unhealed wounds,
old stories, limiting beliefs - so that we can step into whatβs
next with power and precision. RESET 2025 is designed to do just
that. ( [link removed] ) Through
movement, meditation, reflection, rest and recreation, we will
unwind and release all that we are carrying so that we can open
up to all that we are becoming. It will be a generous balance of
practice and play as we reflect on where we are coming from and
imagine where we are going.
