Dear John,
We are reaching out today with an urgent call to action to support our fight for abortion rights in the UK.
A crucial petition has been lodged in the UK Parliament by Scottish pro-choice activist Gemma Clark. This petition calls on the UK government to remove abortion from criminal law, ensuring that no woman faces jail for ending her pregnancy.

** Why this matters
------------------------------------------------------------
Abortion in England and Wales is still a criminal offence. Under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, any woman who undergoes an abortion without the permission of two doctors – for example by ordering pills online – can be prosecuted and receive a life sentence as her abortion takes place outside of the provisions of the Act.
Since 2022, 6 women in England have appeared in court charged with ending or attempting to end their own pregnancy outside abortion law.
Our ongoing #TimeToAct campaign has made significant strides, but this petition represents a pivotal moment. If it receives 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for a debate in Parliament. This debate could be the spark we need to propel our cause forward, raising much-needed awareness and prompting action among both the public and politicians.
** Current status
------------------------------------------------------------
The petition currently has just over 2,200 signatures and is open until 25 May 2025. We have a significant challenge ahead of us to reach the 100,000 signature threshold, but with your help, we can achieve this goal.

While we have you...
Last week in response to the US Presidential election, we launched a fundraiser to fight for global abortion rights, and support The Brigid Alliance ([link removed]) .
Thanks to your generous support, we have raised nearly £4,400, 30% of which will go directly to The Brigid Alliance, and the rest will go to providing safe, compassionate abortion services for all women who need them here in the UK, as well as our advocacy efforts to protect abortion rights.
The cost of abortion care in the US has soared since the reversal of Roe v Wade. The Brigid Alliance provides people seeking abortions with travel, food, lodging, child care and other logistical support - and they have reported that the average cost of their clients’ itineraries now exceeds $2,300.
If you are able, please consider either a small donation to our fundraiser, or send this fundraiser on to someone you know who may consider donating. Now, more than ever, every penny counts in the global fight for abortion rights.
