A Brief History of Veterans Day
 

Veterans Day began as Armistice Day in 1919, marking the first anniversary of the end of World War I.

In 1938, Armistice Day became an official holiday to honor veterans of “the Great War.”

By 1954, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day to honor veterans from every conflict and branch, becoming a national day of remembrance.

Simple Ways to Thank a Veteran

Send a handwritten thank-you note or card to a veteran in your life.

Spend time learning about veterans’ stories and sharing their experiences with others.

Consider volunteering with a local veterans’ organization that provides support to veterans and their families.
