It's GOTV Time — 10 Days Left!
We have 10 days to elect a new, pro-public education Arizona Legislature. We are so, so close. We hope you’ve already returned your ballot (it needs to be put in the mail by TUESDAY the 29th). And we sure hope you voted for pro-public education champions up and down your ballot using our SOSAZ BALLOT GUIDE [[link removed]] 💥🗳️ We also hope you’ve texted or emailed the ballot guide to at least 5-10 friends ( sosarizona.org/vote [[link removed]] )!
Plus, we hope you’re willing to join us to make calls and/or knock doors [[link removed]] ! These races will be far too close: we could lose the Legislature by just 100 votes . That means 2 more years of horrible bills attacking our schools, and zero progress for our kids.
Every vote, and every conversation, is so important. Remember when Kris Mayes won by 280 votes? And Christine Marsh took the LD4 state Senate seat by 1,189 votes? And Keith Seaman won a House seat in LD16 by 0.62% of the vote? That’s because we called and knocked more than the other guys — and we’ve got to do it again.
We’ll be honest: we’re too busy canvassing and calling [[link removed]] to write a full Weekly Ed Report, and we hope you’re too busy doing the same to read it 🤓 Here are some important headlines from the week:
[[link removed]] ⚖️ SOSAZ Files a Complaint Against AZ Supreme Court Justice Clint Bolick [[link removed]] : Bolick made explicitly political comments at a Republican Club meeting, which violates the AZ Judicial Codes of Conduct which call for “impartiality” at all times. We recommend a Do Not Retain vote on Bolick and his colleague, Kathryn King [[link removed]] , due to their harmful decisions which have had devastating impacts on public education funding and have prevented Arizona voters from weighing in on critical issues at the ballot.
😡 Trump’s running mate JD Vance came to Peoria this week and made racist, incendiary remarks to the crowd [[link removed]] . Vance wrongfully claimed that children entering Arizona illegally are ruining our education system: “In Arizona schools right now, we have got thousands upon thousands of children who can't even speak the native, the local language in Arizona. Sometimes they don't even speak Spanish, of course, because we've got illegal immigrants coming from all over. What does that do to the education of American children when their teachers aren't teaching them, but they're focused on kids who don't have the legal right to be here?” [[link removed]]
This is part of a disturbing, un-American trope [[link removed]] that blames immigrants for dragging our country down. At SOSAZ, we welcome immigrant families and know that these students enrich our schools as diverse places of learning.
🔥 Two Lifelong Educators want to Support Public Schools in the Arizona Legislature: [[link removed]] Read about Keith & Stacey Seaman, a dynamic father-daughter duo of educators running for the LD16 Senate and House in Pinal County!
😍 SOSAZ Volunteer Could Clinch Control of the Arizona Legislature [[link removed]] : Read about Brandy Reese, a former forensic scientist and hardworking canvasser whose "foray into politics began with her volunteering for Save Our Schools Arizona," who is running for a state House seat in LD13 — and don't miss the statement from opponent, Republican Jeff Weninger, who "doesn’t think any major changes in oversight are necessary" (🙄) to Arizona's out-of-control universal ESA voucher program.
🍎 A high school AP History teacher from the Deer Valley Unified School District was named Arizona’s 2025 Teacher of the Year [[link removed]] .
Step up to help flip the legislature to one that supports public schools and will rein in this off-the-rails voucher program!
